Quality Assurance

Who Needs Quality Assurance…

During my daily browsing of YouTube videos, i’m not much of an Ad viewer. (the ‘Skip Ad’ link cannot be displayed fast enough).

However, a few ads produced by Samsung have caught my attention. They are focused on Samsung’s current Quality Assurance practices.

Emphasis is placed on Stress & Battery Tests.

This brings to mind, the ancient Benjamin Franklin Quote “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” (fittingly created to address fire safety) .

Over their latest financial period, Samsung’s losses have amounted to more than 5 billion dollars,  (J. Mullen, 2016) due to exploding batteries.

To their books, you can add the creation of a Quality Assurance Lab, Advertisements, flame-proof return kits, shipping expenses, etc.

It’s really unfortunate Samsung did not realize the importance of Quality Assurance and make changes earlier. Thankfully, this does not appear to be a growing trend within IT.

North American budget spent on QA currently amounts to  31% of total IT Budget, with expectations this number will increase to 44% over the next three years (S. Hughes, S. Parekh, 2016).

We can all rest assured Quality is increasing. As we continue to analyze the impacts of IOT (Internet of Things), this is needed.

Here are Samsung’s Ads for your viewing pleasure :

Quality Assurance : Extensive Tests

Quality Assurance : 8-Point Battery Safety Check
